Professional Conduct Complaint

As a self-regulating professional association, CPA Australia members voluntarily agree to be bound by CPA Australia’s Constitution, By-Laws, Code of Professional Conduct and applicable regulations. These standards aim to ensure the accountancy profession works to a high level of professionalism and provides a quality of service.

Complaints we can investigate

CPA Australia will investigate complaints about a CPA Australia member/s and has a formal process that enables complaints to be heard, evaluated and where appropriate, disciplinary action to be taken. More information is available at member conduct and dicipline.

To ascertain if the individual is a Member of CPA Australia please contact CPA Australia on 1300 73 73 73.

Complaints must be in writing, identify the complainant and include supporting documentation.

Complaints we are unable to investigate

CPA Australia is unable to act on complaints:

  • Relating to non members, or
  • Primarily concerning fee disputes, or
  • Where the event occurred more than five years prior to the date of the complaint, or
  • Which are able to be dealt with in another jurisdiction

If there are ongoing legal proceedings related to the complaint, the CPA Australia investigation process will be unable to proceed until those proceedings have been concluded.

What happens when you make a complaint

Receipt of your complaint will be acknowledged in writing.

Your complaint, and supporting documentation, will be provided to the member for response.

You will be notified in writing of the outcome of your complaint.

Privacy Statement

Personal information will be handled in accordance with the CPA Australia Privacy Policy.

The Information you provide when you engage in the complaint process will be used by CPA Australia to investigate the complaint and, if the matter proceeds to Disciplinary Proceedings, for the purpose of conducting such CPA Australia disciplinary proceedings.

CPA Australia may disclose the Personal Information you provide us, to:

  • The Member in question and their representative/s
  • Persons involved in dispute resolution processes involving CPA Australia, CPA Australia members, members of disciplinary panel/s appointed by the Board and staff of CPA Australia involved in the disciplinary process
  • External service providers to whom we have contracted out functions, such as transcript recording service providers, but only for the purpose of CPA Australia’s disciplinary procedures
